the rates. Does this place feel like a home for you and
your child? Does the center go out of its way to create
“wow” experiences for you as a parent and for your
child? Is the staff led with grace, encouragement, and
a high consideration for their well-being? You can be
sure that however the staff in the company are treat-
ed, that will eventually translate into how you and
your child are treated.
Staff are one of the greatest assets of any business.
They can become outspoken advocates of a well-run
child care center and stay for many years, getting to
know families. Good leadership is aware of these
benefits and puts extensive effort into staff happiness
and retention. Do you notice this when touring? Do
the teachers seem enthusiastic about their job and
excited to be there? Do they have a passion for their
work and opportunities for further education and
training?
A great child care center requires all teachers and
staff to meet minimal qualifications. In many states, a
degree in child development or a related field is
required, while in others, it depends on years of
experience. All staff members should be CPR and first
aid certified. Ongoing education is also really im-
portant! Great centers offer opportunities for staff
members to expand their certifications and experi-
ence through paid training or similar initiatives. Feel
free to ask about this! Good staff benefits are also a
