ing and more. Be sure to understand in full what the
center’s values are and how they operate daily. As
stated earlier with Criteria #4, “A Focus on Teacher
Engagement, Training & Support,” these should be
posted somewhere visible where they can be refer-
enced by every staff member.
The teacher or leader giving you a tour should
mention them often and explain how the core values
are central to the philosophy, teaching style, and
daily running of the school. These shouldn’t just be
words painted up on a wall somewhere. They should
be real values that the center operates by every day.
They should be central to how they hire, fire, train
staff, and interact with children and family members.
